1985 Beringer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Private Reserve

Dark garnet, brickish around the edge. Nose has Cherry, chassis, spices, and violets. On the palate the fruit was complex with flavors of cherry, chassis, plums, leather, chocolate, and spices, moderate acid, soft tannins, and a long fruity finish. This was a beautiful, complex, mature California Cabernet Sauvignon. It seemed to be fully mature, but it still had good structure and should hold for some more years. I think this was the best wine I have had in some time. My rating 95.

Was just given a bottle of this wine, Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon 1985, Knights Valley Proprietor Grown. Don't know whether I should drink it or sell it? If anyone is interested in purchasing, give me an offer at: kurtshaffer@ameritech.net

The Knights Valley and Private Reserve are very different wines. The Private Reserve is a premium wine, sold at a premium price, and intended for aging. The Knights Valley is a wine priced for the broad market. The Knights Valley is usually good and can certainly age for 10 years or moer, but I really don't know how it would be after 23 years.
